Inspired by captain Christian Pulisic, the Americans produced a ruthless attacking display in front of a packed Los Angeles Stadium crowd. Mauricio Pochettino’s team overwhelmed Paraguay early, with Folarin Balogun adding to the pressure as the U.S. stormed into a commanding three-goal lead before halftime.
Paraguay briefly fought back through Mauricio in the second half, but Giovanni Reyna sealed the emphatic victory with a late goal, completing the first four-goal World Cup performance in U.S. history.
The result also matched America’s joint-biggest ever World Cup victory margin, equaling famous wins recorded 96 years ago. The United States now tops Group D with three points.
Earlier in Toronto, Canada celebrated a historic milestone after battling to a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group B.
Bosnia opened the scoring through Jovo Lukic after Saed Kolasinac flicked on a corner kick, stunning the home supporters. Canada pushed relentlessly for an equalizer before coach Jesse Marsch introduced striker Cyle Larin in the 76th minute.
The Brampton-born forward made an instant impact, scoring just two minutes later to spark wild celebrations inside Toronto Stadium.
The draw marked Canada’s first-ever non-defeat at a FIFA World Cup after losing all six previous matches since its tournament debut four decades ago.
Canada and Bosnia each collected one point in Group B, while Switzerland and Qatar were scheduled to play later.
The tournament continues Saturday with Qatar facing Switzerland in Group B, while Brazil meets Morocco, Haiti takes on Scotland, and Australia opens its Group D campaign against Türkiye.
