Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has nominated Adrian Hamilton Manns, the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Oman’s SalamAir, as its next Chief Executive Officer, marking one of the most significant leadership appointments since the airline passed into private hands earlier this year.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed the nomination on condition of anonymity, noting that security and other clearances are still being processed and a formal announcement has not yet been made. Hamilton Manns is expected to take charge by the end of October 2026.
The appointment follows an Arif Habib-led consortium taking over management of PIA on 29 June 2026, making this one of the first major executive nominations under private ownership.
Who Is Adrian Hamilton Manns?
Hamilton Manns is a New Zealand-born aviation executive with over 25 years of experience building, turning around and scaling low-cost carriers across Africa, Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific. His career reads as a blueprint for exactly the kind of transformation PIA’s new private owners are expected to pursue.
He most recently served as CEO of SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost airline, from July 2024 to October 2026, where he oversaw operations of an 18-aircraft Airbus A320 family fleet across routes spanning Central Asia, India, Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
Before SalamAir, Hamilton Manns served as President and CEO of FlyArystan, Central Asia’s leading low-cost carrier, from April 2020 to July 2024. Under his leadership, FlyArystan earned a SkyTrax four-star rating, was voted the Best LCC in Central Asia, and built a reputation as one of theworld’s most innovative airlines, operating 22 A320s on a pure low-cost model.
His broader career spans some of the most formative moments in global low-cost aviation. He was the founding CEO of flyafrica.com, built from the ground up in Mauritius as Africa’s low-fare airline. He served as Chief Commercial Officer at Mandala Airlines in Indonesia, where he managed a major debt restructure and subsequent recapitalization involving Tiger Airways. He also served as General Manager Commercial at Pacific Blue, a Virgin Australia subsidiary, overseeing expansion from four to thirteen Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Earlier in his career, Hamilton Manns was part of the founding commercial team at IndiGo, India’s largest low-cost carrier, helping establish its commercial systems and processes at launch. He has also held senior roles at South African Airways, Qatar Airways and Air New Zealand, and spent four years as Managing Director for Asia at aviation technology firm Radixx, based in Kuala Lumpur.
He holds a Bachelor of Aviation and Commerce from Massey University in New Zealand and an MBA in Tourism from the University of Cumbria.
What His Appointment Signals
Hamilton Manns brings a distinctly LCC-focused profile to PIA, an airline that has long operated as a full-service carrier while struggling with structural losses, overcapacity and an aging fleet. His track record of launching and turning around low-cost operations on multiple continents suggests PIA’s new private management may be considering a fundamental repositioning of the airline’s business model rather than incremental reform.
His experience with turnaround strategy, finance restructuring and commercial transformation across emerging markets makes him a credible choice for one of Pakistan’s most complex aviation challenges.
A formal announcement is expected once security clearances are completed.
