Hundreds of Thousands of Metallic Starbucks-Branded Mugs Recalled Nationwide Over Safety Concerns.
Nestle USA has issued a recall for 440,500 metallic mugs included in a 2023 holiday Starbucks-branded gift set, following concerns of burn and laceration hazards, as announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday.
Sold online and at major retailers such as Target and Walmart nationwide between November 2023 and January 2024, as well as through military retail outlets, the mugs have been flagged for potential dangers. The CPSC warns that microwaving the mugs or filling them with extremely hot liquid could lead to overheating or breakage, posing risks of burns and lacerations.
According to reports received by Nestle, there have been at least a dozen incidents of mugs overheating or breaking, resulting in 10 injuries. Among these, nine cases involved severe burns or blisters on fingers and hands, while one incident led to a finger laceration requiring medical attention.
The recalled ceramic metallic mugs were available in various sets, including a Starbucks holiday gift set with two mugs, Starbucks classic hot cocoa and mug, Starbucks peppermint and classic hot cocoas and mug, and Starbucks holiday blend coffee and mug, offered in different sizes.
