His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has awarded authorization to the University of Sharjah (UoS) to introduce a hybrid educational system in specific cases.
This initiative is primarily aimed at accommodating working students who face challenges attending regular in-person sessions.
In a recent phone interview on Sharjah Radio and Television’s “Direct Line” program, Sheikh Sultan emphasized the importance of learning and cherishing the Arabic language. He expressed sympathy for working students who struggle to maintain a consistent university attendance schedule due to their job commitments. To address this concern, the University of Sharjah will implement a hybrid education system, combining in-person and remote learning.
Under this new approach, students will be required to be physically present at the university for one day per week for each course, reducing the traditional three-day weekly attendance. The remaining two days of coursework will be conducted remotely via the internet.
It’s important to note that this hybrid system will be selectively applied, taking into account the individual circumstances of students that necessitate this approach to complete their education. Specifically, it will cater to employees who are unable to take extended leaves but will not be applicable to everyone.
These decisions were prompted by a call from “Umm Saud,” who shared her challenges attending lectures regularly due to her work commitments. Sheikh Sultan concluded his remarks by underlining the significance of understanding and valuing the Arabic language. He encouraged individuals to engage in dedicated and persistent language learning, citing his own commitment to the language, its relevance, and its historical roots.
