Iran has issued a statement on talks with member countries of the Makkah Defence Alliance, agreeing to continue discussions to strengthen regional cooperation and promote peace and security.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the talks were hosted by Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The statement said the meeting was attended by Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Türkiye’s intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin.
Iranian officials said the four countries had agreed to continue discussions to strengthen cooperation. Regional peace and security were the central topics of the meeting.
Earlier, senior officials from the countries participating in the Makkah Defence Agreement had also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the meeting, Pezeshkian urged Muslim countries to strengthen regional cooperation against Israeli aggression and what he described as US-backed efforts to divide the Middle East.
The Iranian president said his country was ready to fully cooperate in promoting unity, security and development among Muslim nations.
He also strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Gaza, Lebanon, Iran and other parts of the region.
Addressing Iran’s nuclear programme, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran was not seeking nuclear weapons but remained firmly committed to its right to pursue peaceful nuclear activities under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
