Samsung recently imposed a temporary restriction on the use of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, on its personal computers due to misuse by employees.
The company’s decision was communicated to employees of one of its largest divisions via a memo at the end of April after instances of misuse were discovered. According to Bloomberg, some employees had uploaded sensitive code to ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is a popular AI chatbot that utilizes generative artificial intelligence to provide responses to user inquiries based on large sets of data. Although Samsung currently does not have its own generative AI product and relies on third-party services like ChatGPT, the company’s concerns over potential leaks of critical information have raised red flags.
Other examples of generative AI products include Google’s Bard. Given the possibility of sensitive company data being uploaded onto foreign-owned platforms, companies must remain vigilant about safeguarding their critical information.
