Sadiq Khan has secured a historic third term as Mayor of London, winning by a significant margin over his main rival, Conservative Susan Hall.
Sadiq Khan outscored Hall in nine out of 14 constituencies, with a total of 1,088,225 votes compared to Hall’s 812,397. Despite Hall’s victories in some areas, Khan made key gains in others where he had previously come second.
In his victory speech, Khan expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the city and criticized the negativity of the election campaign. The race, which included 13 candidates, was anticipated to be closer, but turnout favored Khan, leading to rumors of a potential upset victory for Hall.
Voting figures for the London Assembly election are also being tallied alongside the mayoral results.
This was evident in south-west London where the Lib Dems won their first ever constituency Assembly seat – but Mr Khan comfortably out-polled Ms Hall.
