World’s most famous footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has shared insights into his retirement plans.
Portugal’s iconic footballer shared his plans after retirement following the national team’s impressive 5-1 win over Poland in the Nations League quarter-final qualifier.
This match became the 132nd international win for Ronaldo and also achieved him the record for most international wins, overtaking the former Real Madrid goalkeeper Sergio Ramos who has 131 wins for Spain.
After the match, Ronaldo, a 39-year-old who has won the Ballon d’Or five times, spoke about his career and his thoughts on retirement. “I have reached that stage when I now only want to enjoy myself. And if it comes to that retirement I can say it is a year or two will do. I am turning 40 in a few months’ time,” reasoned Ronaldo.
He explained that he loves playing and as such would do so any time he feels like doing it. “The day I lose the passion is the day I stop playing,” he confirmed.
According to Cristiano, he also has no intention of starting to coach or manage a team after he hangs up his boots. “It’s not in my plans to become a team manager. I have other plans that do not involve football and only time will tell the rest,” he said.
Earlier August 2024 in an interview, Ronaldo disclosed that although he does intend to retire in the near future, he does not plan to leave the Saudi club Al-Nassr when the contract expires at the end of this season.
