A pall of grief has descended over Mandi Bahauddin after a young and well-known kabaddi player was shot dead in an apparent case of personal enmity, police said on Thursday.

The victim, 23-year-old Ali Asghar Gujjar, was gunned down in the village of Sandhanwala, located within the jurisdiction of Phalia police station. According to initial police reports, unidentified assailants opened fire on the athlete, killing him on the spot.
Investigators say the killing appears to be linked to an old rivalry, which reportedly escalated following a heated exchange over the phone shortly before the attack. Authorities believe the suspects targeted the player deliberately.
