UK police have launched a manhunt after a woman of Indian origin was raped in what officers described as a racially aggravated attack in the Park Hall area of Walsall, northern England.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, when residents reported seeing a visibly distressed woman, believed to be in her 20s, wandering the neighborhood. Investigators later confirmed she had been sexually assaulted and beaten inside a nearby property by a man she did not know, Sky News reported.
Police have released CCTV footage of the suspect, described as white, in his 30s, with short hair and dressed in dark clothing, urging the public to help identify him.
“This was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman, and we are doing everything we can to find the person responsible,” said Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer of West Midlands Police.
He added that forensic teams are collecting evidence and reviewing video footage to build a full profile of the attacker. “It’s vital that anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the area comes forward,” Tyrer said. “Even dashcam or home CCTV footage could provide the breakthrough we need.”
Police emphasized that while several leads are being followed, the incident is not currently linked to other offences.
The assault has reignited public outrage just a month after the rape of a British Sikh woman, which led to nationwide calls for tougher laws and policing against racially motivated violence in the UK.
As investigations continue, local leaders and women’s rights groups are urging authorities to treat hate-fueled sexual violence as a national emergency.
