Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced an ambitious plan to extend the province’s Green Bus Service to every tehsil, describing it as a major step toward providing modern, safe, and affordable public transportation across Punjab.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Green Bus Service in six districts, the chief minister said the project would be expanded in phases, with buses eventually operating at the tehsil level. She noted that the service would be especially beneficial for women by offering secure and comfortable travel.
Maryam Nawaz said the newly launched buses are modern, air-conditioned, and environmentally friendly. To keep public transport affordable, the fare has been fixed at just Rs20 per ride.
She also announced that 1,100 buses will be added to Punjab’s roads during the current year, while the government aims to increase the fleet to a total of 5,000 buses over the next three years.
The chief minister emphasized that the provincial government is committed to modernizing Punjab’s public transport network and ensuring that citizens have access to quality travel facilities.
At the conclusion of her address, Maryam Nawaz praised the Transport Department, the provincial transport minister, the transport secretary, and the entire team for their dedication and efforts in advancing the project. She commended the officials for their hard work and expressed confidence that they would continue serving the public with the same commitment in the future.
