Big News: Punjab Daily Wage Increase Announced
The Punjab government has officially issued a notification increasing the wages of daily wage workers across the province. This move aims to support skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled laborers facing rising living costs. New Wage Rates for Skilled, Semi-Skilled, and Unskilled Labor
According to the Assistant Commissioner (HR), skilled daily wage workers will now earn Rs. 1,975 per day or Rs. 45,945 per month. Semi-skilled workers will receive Rs. 1,558 per day or Rs. 43,108 per month, while unskilled workers will be paid Rs. 1,538 per day or Rs. 40,000 per month. These adjustments are designed to bring fairness and better financial security to workers in all categories.
Minimum Wage Fixed at Rs. 40,000
Last month, the Punjab Labor and Human Resource Department officially fixed the minimum wage for all workers in industrial and commercial sectors at Rs. 40,000 per month for 26 working days. The daily wage rate is set at Rs. 1,538.46 for an eight-hour shift, and the hourly wage at Rs. 192.31. This structure ensures consistency and transparency for both workers and employers.
Allowances and Employer Flexibility
Employers are allowed to deduct specific allowances based on mutual agreements, including Rs. 100 per meal, Rs. 1,800 for transport, and Rs. 2,000 for accommodation each month. This gives businesses some flexibility while still ensuring that workers get fair compensation for their labor.
Protecting Worker Rights and Wages
The government clarified that any worker already earning higher wages will not face a pay cut. Employers are encouraged to continue offering competitive salaries based on skill, experience, and performance. This measure is a positive step toward strengthening labor rights and supporting the working class.
