A private passenger aircraft carrying nine people has crashed near a residential area in the US state of Florida, killing everyone on board.
According to US authorities, the Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County at approximately 12:50 pm on Sunday.
The aircraft reportedly descended rapidly from the sky before striking the ground and bursting into flames following a powerful explosion. The plane crashed near a busy highway, while the flames narrowly avoided reaching nearby homes.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the incident in a post on social media platform X, describing it as a deeply tragic accident. He also confirmed that all nine people aboard the aircraft had lost their lives.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it would send a team to assist the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in investigating the cause of the crash.
Authorities said the aircraft had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading to the Bahamas. However, the cause of the crash and the identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
The accident occurred near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North. Following the incident, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed roads in both directions and advised motorists to use alternative routes.
Firefighters and other emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene and launched rescue and response operations. A local woman also reported that electricity in the area remained disrupted for approximately two hours following the crash.
