A distinguished committee has been revealed to determine Pakistan’s official entry for the Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category.
The committee comprises renowned individuals from the entertainment and literary world, including director and cinematographer Bilal Lashari, writer and director Saim Sadiq, actor Fawad Khan, author Fatima Bhutto, PR expert Frieha Altaf, filmmaker Haya Fatima Iqbal, documentary filmmaker Madeeha Syed, filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar, veteran actor Nadia Afgan, and actor Ahmed Ali Akbar.
Over the coming month, this committee will meticulously assess eligible films to choose the submission that most aptly represents the essence of Pakistani cinema. A press release has stated that the selected film will be officially submitted to the Academy Awards for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category.
Pakistani Academy Selection Committee (PASC) Chairman Mohammed Ali Naqvi said that this newly formed committee is a testament to the burgeoning talent within Pakistan’s film industry. “It’s an honor to collaborate with such an exceptional team to shine a spotlight on the exceptional narratives created by Pakistani filmmakers,” he remarked.
Naqvi also revealed that the committee is currently in the process of evaluating the received films. “An official announcement regarding Pakistan’s chosen submission for the 96th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category will be made by early October,” he further stated.
