A sad incident has happened in Sialkot ,in Kotli Marala village, a pregnant woman named Zara, who had recently arrived from Italy, was allegedly killed by her mother-in-law, who is also her maternal aunt.
Sialkot police spokesperson Malik Waqas Ali provided details, explaining that Zara, a 30-year-old woman, had been residing in Italy with her husband and their 2.5-year-old son. Her marriage was to her maternal cousin, and she had come to Pakistan a month earlier. Zara was pregnant with her second child, and it was reported that she was experiencing family tensions with her mother-in-law.
Zara’s father, an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Punjab Police, tried to contact her on November 10. When he couldn’t reach her, he visited her in-laws’ home, only to be told that Zara had left the house. Concerned about her safety, he reported her as missing to the police on November 11. Given the suspicious circumstances, the in-laws were included in the investigation.
As part of the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and found no evidence of Zara leaving the home, which raised further suspicions. Upon questioning, Zara’s mother-in-law eventually confessed to the crime, admitting that she had suffocated Zara and then chopped up her body, disposing of the parts in different locations in a nearby drain.
Police faced significant challenges in locating Zara’s body parts, which had been placed in two to three separate bags and scattered. The final bag was discovered on November 13. During the investigation, Zara’s mother-in-law, Sughran Bibi, revealed that she had assistance in the crime from her daughter (Zara’s sister-in-law), her grandson, and a man named Naveed from Lahore.
In light of these revelations, the Sialkot police upgraded the initial missing person report to include charges under Section 302 for murder. Zara’s mother-in-law, her sister-in-law, and her sister-in-law’s son are currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
