Pakistan’s Cotton Yarn Exports to China Exceed $100 Million in Early 2024
Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce reports that Pakistan’s cotton yarn exports to China have surged past the $100 million mark in the first two months of 2024. This represents a significant increase of around 98% compared to the same period last year.
The General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) data reveals that uncombed single cotton yarn (cotton≥85%, 232.56≤yarn<714.29, commodity code 52051200) totaled $57.77 million, making Pakistan the second-largest exporter after Vietnam in this category.

Moreover, uncombed single cotton yarn (cotton≥85%, yarn≥714.29, commodity code 52051100) reached $41.95 million, a notable increase from $14.54 million in the same period last year.
Sajid Mahmood, Head of the Transfer of Technology Department at the Central Cotton Research Institute Multan, emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s diversification of exports to include high-quality variants like cotton, carded, and combed yarns, enhancing competitiveness in the Chinese market.
Despite Pakistan’s Free Trade Agreement with China, Mahmood noted that the country faces tough competition from India, especially in non-Siro yarns, despite India facing a 3.5% higher duty. Vietnam also presents a challenge with similar duty-free privileges, although its reliance on imported cotton exposes it to vulnerability.
