A 25-year-old student from Pakistan named Dania Zaheer is fighting for her life after being hit by a car in a hit-and-run incident close to Houston’s Galleria area.
She moved to Houston on a visa to pursue a master’s degree in business administration at North American University. She was crossing the street at Westheimer and Sage around 8 p.m. last Thursday when the accident happened. The driver fled the scene, leaving her in critical condition.
Dania is currently recovering at Memorial Hermann Hospital, where doctors have found multiple fractures, including injuries to her pelvis, hip, arm, and femur. She is also dealing with fluid buildup in her lungs, making it hard for her to breathe.
However, her physical injuries may not be the challenge she faces. Zaheer arrived in Houston without any family or support system. Now, after this tragic accident, she is left uncertain about her future, especially once she is released from the hospital. “I had a really bright future and now I can’t see anything,” she expressed. “I don’t even know who will take care of me when I leave the hospital.”
Zaheer made the move to Houston to give her family in Pakistan a better life. Unfortunately, her parents can’t be there for her during this tough time due to financial constraints.
The Houston Police Department is looking into the hit-and-run incident and has received a witness statement but no details about the suspect or the vehicle have been released yet. In response to her situation, ABC13 contacted the Pakistani Association of Greater Houston which has reached out to Zaheer.
The organization is working on establishing a support fund to help with her medical and living costs while she recovers. Despite facing challenges Zaheer remains hopeful for a future and appreciates any help she can get as she navigates through this difficult period.
