ISLAMABAD, July 15, 2025 — Pakistan’s mobile manufacturing sector produced approximately 6.6 million smartphones between January and June 2025, reflecting a continued boom in local production as import restrictions and high taxes reshape the market, according to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
From January to May, 12.05 million mobile phones were assembled locally — 5.52 million smartphones and 6.53 million 2G feature phones. Based on monthly averages, June production is estimated to have added another 1.1 million smartphones, bringing the total to around 6.624 million smartphones in the first half of 2025.
Additionally, Pakistan imported around 0.76 million mobile devices in the first five months, with June estimates pushing total imports to roughly 0.91 million units. Combined local production and imports suggest that Pakistan consumed nearly 14.6 million mobile devices in the first half of 2025.
While precise sales figures remain unavailable, analysts estimate smartphone sales could be in the 6.6–7 million range during this period, as local production meets about 94% of domestic demand.
PTA approvals through its Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) are approximated at 0.9 to 1 million for imported devices during this period, although official data on personal versus commercial registrations is not disclosed.
