Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced decisive legal action against those involved in recent protests who violated the law. Addressing the media, the premier emphasized that individuals who damaged public property attacked law enforcement personnel, or caused harm to lives will face strict punishments under the law.
PM Shehbaz Sharif condemned the acts of violence during the protests, stating that no one is above the law. “We cannot allow anyone to undermine the rule of law, harm national assets, or endanger the lives of citizens and law enforcement officials,” he asserted.
He further assured that all cases would be thoroughly investigated, and those found guilty would be held accountable. “Justice will prevail, and the perpetrators will receive the punishments they deserve,” the Prime Minister said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the country.
The statement comes amid nationwide concerns over recent unrest, allegedly linked to political protests. The Prime Minister urged citizens to demonstrate peacefully and within the bounds of the law while warning against actions destabilizing the country.
This announcement is seen as a stern message to deter future disruptions and reinforce the government’s stance on upholding public safety and property.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established two task forces following recent protests: one to prosecute rioters and another to address alleged anti-state online campaigns. Sharif emphasized swift identification and legal action against those who damaged public property, injured law enforcement personnel, or violated the law during PTI-led sit-ins. Evidence, including weapons and ammunition recovered from protest sites, will undergo forensic analysis to support investigations.
The PTI condemned these actions, with party spokesperson Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari labeling the task forces as tools to suppress PTI supporters and violate human rights. He accused the government of using the unrest as a pretext to stifle opposition.
Meanwhile, Islamabad’s police chief, Ali Rizvi, reported the arrest of nearly 1,000 PTI supporters involved in the protests, denying the use of live ammunition during the operation. Seized weapons and swift action helped clear the protest site.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has remained imprisoned since August 2023, facing multiple legal challenges he claims are politically driven to bar him from public office.
