Government Publishes Details of State Gifts
The Government of Pakistan has released the latest Toshakhana records, revealing details of 105 state gifts received by senior public officials during the past three months. The information was published by the Ministry of Information, while the Cabinet Division also updated its official portal with Toshakhana records dating back to 2002. Unlike previous disclosures, however, the government did not reveal the estimated monetary value of the newly deposited gifts.
Luxury Watches Among High-Profile Gifts
According to the official record, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and several other senior officials received a variety of diplomatic gifts during official engagements. Among the most notable items were Rolex and Patek Philippe luxury watches, along with jewelry, ceremonial swords, commemorative shields, paintings, decorative artifacts, traditional clothing, collectible coins, and cultural souvenirs. All listed gifts have been deposited in the Toshakhana in accordance with official procedures.
The government clarified that while details of the gifts have been published, the identities of the foreign dignitaries who presented them remain confidential under existing policy.
Transparency and Public Access
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the government regularly releases Toshakhana records to promote transparency and public accountability. He stated that information relating to gifts received by the President, Prime Minister, federal ministers, senior officials, and other officeholders is available through the official online portal.
The Cabinet Division also noted that the valuation process for several items is still underway and emphasized that the published data is based on information submitted by relevant institutions. It added that responsibility for any inaccuracies rests with the reporting authorities rather than the Cabinet Division itself.
Wide Range of Official Gifts
The published records show that gifts ranged from luxury watches and jewelry to books, pens, decorative items, cultural artifacts, and ceremonial souvenirs. Senior officials, including members of the President’s staff, ministers, parliamentary leaders, and other government representatives, were among those who received gifts during official diplomatic engagements.
The latest disclosure marks another step in making Pakistan’s Toshakhana records more accessible, allowing the public to review the official register of state gifts while reinforcing transparency in the management of diplomatic presents.
