Pakistan’s men’s national football team is set to create history after securing its place in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, marking the country’s first-ever participation in a FIFA-sanctioned international tournament. The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) officially confirmed the development after FIFA announced the list of participating nations.

The tournament will be held during the extended international window in September and October and is expected to provide valuable competitive experience for emerging football nations.

Pakistan Among Elite Participating Teams

Pakistan has been invited to compete alongside footballing nations including Malaysia, India, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Hosted by Indonesia, the FIFA ASEAN Cup will feature eight teams in the main competition.

Notably, Pakistan is one of only three invited teams from outside Southeast Asia, highlighting FIFA’s effort to expand international football opportunities and strengthen regional cooperation.

Tournament Format Announced

According to FIFA, participating teams will be divided into balanced groups based on the latest FIFA rankings. The competition will follow a single round-robin format, with group winners advancing to the final, while second-placed teams will contest the third-place playoff.

Pakistan Football Federation President Syed Mohsen Gilani welcomed the announcement and thanked FIFA for extending the invitation.
