Meghan Markle may be returning to what she does best — and the timing could not be more carefully calibrated.
Hours after reports confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry were planning to move back to the United Kingdom after six years in California, Variety reported that Markle is in early talks to join the third season of Netflix’s crime drama The Gentlemen, created by filmmaker Guy Ritchie.
If the deal closes, it would mark Markle’s first major scripted television role since she stepped back from acting in 2020 when she and Harry departed their roles as senior working members of the British Royal Family.
No contract has been signed. Markle’s potential role has not been disclosed. Talks are understood to be at a very early stage. Representatives for both Markle and Netflix declined to comment. The Gentlemen has not yet been officially renewed for a third season.
The series stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, an aristocratic former soldier who inherits his family’s estate and discovers it is connected to a large cannabis operation, a premise that has made it one of Netflix’s most stylish and entertaining recent crime productions.
The potential casting would reunite Markle with Netflix, which already has a production relationship with her and Harry through their Archewell Productions banner. The couple has produced multiple projects for the platform, including the documentary series Harry and Meghan, Heart of Invictus, and Markle’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.
For Pakistani and South Asian audiences who followed Markle’s pre-royal career closely, the prospect of her return to scripted drama on the same platform that carries her documentary work represents one of entertainment’s most anticipated potential comebacks.
The UK move. The Netflix talks. The timing is not accidental.
