Anju, a woman hailing from Rajasthan India, gained widespread attention when she traveled to Pakistan purportedly to meet her alleged lover, Nasrullah.
Videos that surfaced on social media depicted the pair touring the Upper Dir district of Pakistan’s tribal Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Some Pakistani news outlets even claimed that Anju had converted to Islam and married Nasrullah. However, both Anju and Nasrullah have vehemently refuted these assertions, dismissing them as baseless rumors.
In interviews with India Today, Anju and Nasrullah individually denied being married. Nasrullah also debunked the claim that Anju had converted to Islam and adopted the name Fatima. He asserted that these were mere fabrications and that their marriage had not taken place.

When questioned about their appearance before a judge, they clarified that it was solely for seeking protection due to potential threats they faced. Anju, being a foreigner in Pakistan, was seen as vulnerable, so they sought the court’s assistance in securing their safety. Consequently, the government assigned them a security detail of 50 police officers.
Regarding the alleged marriage certificate, both Anju and Nasrullah insisted that it was fraudulent and bore no truth. Anju was described as Nasrullah’s best friend, and they clarified that she arrived in Pakistan on a tourist visa, driven by her curiosity to explore the country.
The issue of Anju’s burqa-wearing in court was explained as a cultural tradition in the region, adopted to protect her identity from potential recognition.
On the topic of religion, they confirmed that Anju had not converted to Islam and continued to practice her own faith.
Addressing the question of any disputes with her husband, it was confirmed that Anju was in the process of getting a divorce.
As for their future relationship, Nasrullah stated that if Anju chose to marry him after her divorce, he would respect her decision. However, for the time being, Anju intended to return to India. Her visa was set to expire on August 4.
It’s worth noting that Malakand Division Deputy Inspector General Nasir Mehmood Satti claimed that a “nikkah” (Islamic marriage ceremony) had taken place between Anju, 35, and Nasrullah, 29, and that she adopted the name Fatima after converting to Islam. However, this statement contradicts Anju and Nasrullah’s denial of their marriage and Anju’s conversion.
