Malala Yousafzai secret love story is finally revealed in her upcoming memoir Finding My Way. The Nobel Peace Prize winner opens up about secretly dating her husband, Asser Malik, during her time at Oxford University. And the challenges of keeping their romance private.
In an excerpt shared by Vogue, Malala recalled how she had to stay cautious while dating Asser because she was easily recognized. She described one incident where. While holding Asser’s hand on a walk, a woman spotted her and took out her phone for a picture. Embarrassed, Malala hid behind a hedge, surprising both Asser and her security team.
Malala Yousafzai secret love story also includes lighthearted moments. During one date, she wore a modest shalwar kameez to satisfy her mother but secretly changed into a sleeveless pink dress at the restaurant. Asser was stunned and whispered, “You’re a sex bomb,” making Malala blush and laugh.
When it came to her parents, Malala first confided in her father, saying, “I like him… romantically.” But her father quickly told her mother, who was upset that Asser wasn’t Pashtun. Despite initial resistance, Malala stood by her feelings and continued the relationship.
The couple married in November 2021 in a small ceremony in Birmingham, England.
Set to release on October 21, 2025, Finding My Way is Malala’s most personal book yet, sharing stories of her student life. Her evolving view of love, and the emotional journey behind her marriage.
