The main suspect accused of running over and killing an orphan boy in Multan, Tauqeer Nazir, was killed in an alleged police encounter near Bahawalpur.
The suspect had run over 15-year-old Waseem Abbas with a car on Monday. The orphan boy reportedly did not want to continue working for Tauqeer because he was distressed by his inhumane behaviour.
According to District Officer CCD Irfan Akbar, Tauqeer Nazir was arrested after the incident and presented before a court. A judicial magistrate subsequently granted four-day physical remand to the police, but the suspect escaped from custody.
The district officer said police attempted to stop two motorcyclists on the Northern Bypass in Bahawalpur. When police tried to intercept them, the suspects allegedly opened fire while fleeing. During the exchange of fire, Tauqeer was killed by firing from his own accomplice, while the accomplice escaped.
It is worth noting that lawyers had also subjected the suspect to violence during his court appearance.
What Happened?
Several CCTV videos emerged from a private housing society in Multan, showing a 15-year-old orphan boy being chased before a car ran him over and killed him.
The suspects allegedly attempted to portray the killing as an accident. However, footage from multiple CCTV cameras and different angles showed the boy running away while the suspects pursued him. Another camera captured the moment when the suspects drove a speeding car over the boy, who died at the scene.
Following the incident, police took action, arrested Tauqeer Nazir and registered a murder case against him.
According to Multan CPO Akhtar Farooq, the victim lived at an orphanage run by an NGO. Seven days before the incident, he had been sent to Tauqeer to learn electrical work. The suspect reportedly took electrical work contracts for various buildings, and children from the same orphanage had previously received training under him.
According to police, the boy was chased and run over after he decided to leave the job.
