Defence Minister Khawaja Asif says Yemen-origin attacks on Saudi Arabia could activate the Mecca trilateral defense pact, requiring Pakistan to support Saudi security.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that attacks on Saudi Arabia originating from Yemen could activate the trilateral defence agreement concluded in Mecca.
Speaking in an interview with a private television channel, Asif said the agreement obliges all three participating countries to assist one another. Any aggression against one member would be considered aggression against all three countries, he added.
The defence minister stressed that Pakistan would not step back from its responsibilities under the agreement and reiterated Islamabad’s clear position regarding Saudi Arabia’s security.
His remarks came after Yemen’s Houthi group carried out attacks targeting Saudi cities, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Najran and Jazan. The attacks reportedly targeted civilian and economic infrastructure and left 73 people injured, including women and children.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia, saying such strikes threaten innocent lives and undermine regional peace and security.
