Senior journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar, Bureau Chief KTN News Sukkur assassinated in Sukkur by unknown assailants, just after leaving the KTN office.
After getting injured by the gunfire of unknown individuals, Jan Muhammad Maher eventually succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
As reported by Anas Ghangro, a correspondent of Daily Kawish, the unfortunate incident involving Mahar took place shortly after 9 pm as he was leaving the channel’s premises to return home. Ghangro personally transported Mahar to a private hospital for medical attention.
According to Ghangro, Mahar was targeted while inside his car in close proximity to the KTN/ Kawish office. The assailants fled the scene, discharging gunshots into the air to intimidate local residents.
Regrettably, the police could not be reached for their account of the incident. This occurrence follows a tragic incident on August 7, where Sabh newspaper reporter, Ghulam Asghar Khand, aged 49, was fatally shot at his residence in the Pir Jo Goth area of the Khairpur district. Khand had sustained a total of nine gunshot wounds.
Sukkur SSP Singhar Malik provided insight into the situation, explaining that a land dispute in the Chak area of Sukkur appeared to be the motive behind the attack on Mahar. As per Malik, the assault on Mahar transpired around 9:15 pm, and law enforcement was informed about the incident at 9:30 pm.
“A personal dispute seems to be the cause of the attack,” the SSP said. Malik apprised that Mahar neither told the local police about his on-going dispute in Shikarpur nor sought security for himself.
Jan Muhammad Mahar, the Bureau Chief of Kawish/KTN Sukkur was the former president of the Sukkur Press Club and Sukkur Union of Journalists.
