A special report by Punjab police has brought the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) into the national media spotlight, as investigators have claimed that the university harbors drug abuse and sexual exploitation. The situation came to light after the chief security officer of IUB was arrested, and now another official, the transport in-charge, has also been apprehended for possession of drugs. Police recovered a small amount of methamphetamine from his possession.
As the investigation progresses, Bahawalpur police have filed a case under the Narcotic Act and are actively expanding their probe to apprehend all the suspects involved.According to the special report, investigators alleged that a group of teachers at the university were engaged in drug peddling and sexually exploiting female students and other teachers.
The police found adult content on the transport in-charge’s mobile phone, along with several drugs and party pills in his possession. The members of this alleged group were accused of blackmailing and sexually exploiting students and teachers, organizing drug-filled parties and even facilitating dance and sex events.
It has been claimed that these culprits used private clips of female students and staff members, which they had filmed, for blackmail purposes. Some students were also implicated in assisting these individuals in distributing drugs.
On the other hand, the IBU Vice Chancellor has sought the involvement of Punjab’s top police officials, including the IGP, to form a high-level inquiry team and investigate the recent developments. He firmly stated that the cases against the arrested officials were false. The university maintains a zero-tolerance policy against drug use, sexual harassment, and exploitation. Consequently, they have requested the police to revamp the investigating team to ensure a fair and thorough inquiry.
