Ishaq Dar elevated to deputy Prime Minister; A win by Nawaz Sharif group?

According to the report of The News, it has been decided to make Ishaq Dar Deputy Prime Minister by PM Shehbaz Sharif with immediate effect.

According to the report, the decision to appoint Mr. Dar as Deputy Prime Minister was made immediately without any delay for notification, on holiday (Sunday).

Close members of the Nawaz Sharif group have been expressing themselves openly for the last few days as if the real center of power lies elsewhere despite Shahbaz Sharif as Prime Minister.

On this matter, Javed Latif, Rana Sanaullah, and Irfan Siddiqui have also expressed themselves openly. Sources also indicate that despite heading the strongest ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar was conspicuously absent, while the Minister of Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, was vocal on all fronts.

The decision to appoint Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister actually indicates to some circles that the real power of the Muslim League-N lies with Mian Nawaz Sharif alone.

It’s a separate matter that the PML-N suffered its worst defeat in the 2024 elections, and it’s thanks and kindness to these circles’  that they were saved from the humiliation of defeat, as Mian Nawaz Sharif was losing both seats of the National Assembly.

Ishaq Dar, a seasoned politician and close aide of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, was appointed as the country’s foreign minister following the February 8 elections.

His unexpected appointment signaled a heightened focus on economics in the nation’s diplomacy, particularly as Pakistan sought to secure another International Monetary Fund deal and bolster external financing.

Dar emphasized the importance of economic diplomacy in his new role. Previously, Pervaiz Elahi of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid had been the only other national politician appointed as the country’s deputy prime minister in 2012.

Dar’s extensive experience includes serving as finance minister multiple times, as well as holding positions in industry, investment, commerce, and as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
