Irshad Bhatti has responded to mounting criticism following his controversial podcast interview with Meera, offering a detailed clarification and defending his approach.
In a statement shared after the backlash, Bhatti said some viewers had reacted after watching only short clips or promotional material, urging audiences to watch the full interview before forming opinions.
“Podcast was paid,” Bhatti reveals
Bhatti disclosed that the podcast was a paid engagement, arranged through an agency. He said he typically does not disclose such arrangements, noting that many guests charge for appearances and it is within their rights.
He clarified that the interview was not part of any film promotion but a standalone discussion.
Questions not new, says Bhatti
Addressing criticism over the nature of his questions, Bhatti said the topics raised during the interview had already been discussed multiple times in courts, media reports, and previous interviews.
“These were not new or surprise questions,” he stated.
Prior understanding with Meera
Bhatti further revealed that there was prior understanding between him and Meera before the recording. He said both had met earlier, discussed the topics in advance, and mutually agreed on the discussion points.
He added that Meera had even visited his home before the podcast, where all major issues were discussed.
