Islamabad — April 26, 2025:
In a move that further heightened tensions in South Asia, India conducted a series of missile tests today, amid its escalating standoff with Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this week.
India’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the test-firing of multiple “precision-strike” missiles, calling it a “pre-scheduled exercise” aimed at bolstering national defense capabilities. However, the timing of the tests, just days after Islamabad blamed India for mishandling the Pahalgam investigation, has drawn intense international scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the United States said it is “actively engaged” with both India and Pakistan, urging both nuclear-armed neighbors to work toward a “responsible and peaceful solution.”
“We are in close contact with officials in New Delhi and Islamabad,” a US State Department spokesperson said. “The United States strongly encourages restraint and constructive dialogue.”
Adding to the diplomatic complexity, China has thrown its weight behind Pakistan’s demand for an independent probe into the Pahalgam attack.
“China supports Pakistan’s legitimate call for an impartial, transparent investigation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stated in a press briefing. “Peace and stability in South Asia are in the interest of all parties.”

The Pahalgam terror incident, which claimed the lives of over 20 people, including foreign tourists, has sharply raised fears of another prolonged conflict between the two neighbors. Islamabad has denied any involvement, while New Delhi continues to point toward cross-border militant networks.
Regional analysts warn that any further escalation could have serious global repercussions, especially with great powers like the US and China now visibly aligned with different sides.
As tension thickens, the international community is closely watching for any signs of de-escalation — or the opposite.
