The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday refused ICC’s offer to host the 2017 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The ICC is considering other venues for the event due to concerns about Bangladesh’s current situation, even though it is scheduled to occur from October 3 to 20 in the country.
Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, mentioned that the ICC formally invited the cricket organization to be the host nation, but they declined.
Shah pointed out that the current monsoon season in India and the country’s dedication to hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup next year were the main reasons for the decision.
Shah mentioned that the ICC asked us to host the Women’s T20 World Cup, but we declined in a polite manner. “Currently, India is experiencing its monsoon season, and plans are being made for the hosting of the Women’s One-Day International World Cup next year.” Organizing two back-to-back major women’s cricket tournaments would be unfeasible.
The ICC has recognized the worries of Bangladesh and is closely monitoring the situation. The deadline for determining if the event will be relocated is August 20.
If Bangladesh cannot host the tournament, other nations such as Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates are being taken into consideration as potential alternatives.
