Javed Chaudhry stands out as one of Pakistan’s most polarizing television anchors and columnists. A quick online search for confrontations on his program ‘Kal Tak’ reveals numerous contentious incidents captured during his shows. The question arises: why is it predominantly within his broadcasts?
From Javed Chaudhry’s heated altercation with ‘Shahzaib Khanzada’ on Express TV to the infamous incident where Lawyer Marwat delivered a slap to Senator Afnan Ullah Khan, Chaudhry’s conduct does not align with the expected demeanor of a TV anchor.
An anchor, in the traditional sense, serves as a stabilizing force that secures a boat or ship in place. Similarly, a TV anchor is tasked with maintaining control over the show, ensuring it runs smoothly. Unfortunately, Chaudhry has often faltered in this regard.
Lately, Javed Chaudhry, the anchor, has come under criticism for what is perceived as bias and fabrication. Chaudhry was accused of concocting a story involving a supposed first aid incident where Senator Afnan Ullah Khan, a black belt, allegedly tended to injuries.
PMLN Senator Afnan Ullah Khan and Imran Khan’s lawyer Sher Afzal Khan Marwat who were involved in a fist-fight in Javed Chaudhry’s show on Express News share some important clarification on Twitter:
Javed Chaudhry’s credibility has been seriously undermined by his dishonesty and blatant bias, which I never expected from him. He concocted a false narrative claiming that I received first aid for injuries from a black belt, Afnan. Afnan, on the other hand, asserts that I wear glasses to conceal these injuries. I propose that we conduct another show on Express TV to showcase Afnan’s martial arts skills, but I insist on having my cameraman present. Just yesterday, I spent the entire day in front of the camera, with my face and eyes clearly visible. To counter the false propaganda of PML (N) and their partner, Javed Chaudhry, I am planning to create my first vlog.
An analysis of a partial video reveals the following details:
- The clip’s total duration is 45 seconds, with 22 seconds in front of the camera and 23 seconds off-camera. During the off-camera period, the anchor suggests that a black belt supposedly overcame them and administered first aid, which they dispute. They question why the entire six-minute video is not being shown.
Furthermore, they point out that cameras on the wall covered the location where the altercation occurred. They challenge the narrative, stating that if they had bled and Afnan had won the fight, why did Afnan report to the police that they had beaten him?
An explanation by anchor Javed Chaudhry, another low from the columnist:

Mr. Marwat alleges that Maryam Nawaz is involved in orchestrating this drama and is using her influence and media to send a message. They conclude by dismissing the idea that a black belt is a formidable opponent in the eyes of Pashtuns.
