Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding across Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with several residential areas submerged in rainwater. Houses in Safdarabad, Gali Loharan and Foji Colony were flooded, while parts of Union Councils 4 and 5 were also affected.
Vehicles were seen submerged in water in Awan Colony, while Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazaar was also inundated following torrential rainfall.
The water level in Nullah Lai continues to rise, prompting authorities to issue an evacuation alert for residents living near the waterway.
Due to the heavy rainfall, the Deputy Commissioner announced a holiday for all public and private educational institutions in Rawalpindi, which will remain closed today.
According to WASA officials, 197mm of rain was recorded in Shamsabad, 184mm in New Katarian, 157mm in Golra, 146mm at PMD and 86mm in Pirwadhai.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast more rainfall across upper and central parts of Pakistan over the next 48 hours. Rain is expected in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Punjab, with a risk of rising river flows and flooding in streams and nullahs.
