Two explosions occurred outside a nightclub in Chandigarh’s Sector 26 early on November 26, damaging property but causing no injuries. The blasts targeted De’Orra restaurant and Seville bar and lounge, both owned by renowned rapper Badshah. The attack is believed to be linked to extortion demands, as gangsters Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility in a social media post. The gangsters alleged that the restaurant owners had ignored their threat.
According to Indian media, explosions which took place between 2:30 am and 2:45 am, were reportedly caused by low-intensity devices thrown by two persons on a motorcycle. While there was no immediate confirmation of the devices’ nature, authorities suspect they were homemade bombs. The blasts caused minor structural damage to both venues and shattered several window panes. A nearby club also suffered slight damage.
On the other hand, Chandigarh Police quickly responded to the scene and initiated an investigation, with the bomb detection squad and forensic teams collecting evidence. The blasts raised concerns over security, especially with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Chandigarh on December 3.
Goldy Brar, known for his involvement in the 2022 murder of famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, was designated a terrorist by the Indian govt earlier this year. Security authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the explosions and the individuals responsible.
