FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 has had very entertaining fixtures tonight; the Germans thrashed Curacao whereas the Japanese fought hard for a draw.
Germany 7-1 Curacao
Germany launched their World Cup campaign in emphatic fashion with a 7-1 victory over debutants Curacao in Group E. Felix Nmecha opened the scoring early before Curacao stunned the four-time champions with a surprise equaliser from Livano Comenencia. Germany quickly regained control, however, with Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav all finding the net. Havertz scored twice as Julian Nagelsmann’s side overwhelmed their opponents after the break. The dominant win marked Germany’s first successful World Cup opener since their 2014 title-winning campaign and put them in a strong position to reach the knockout stage.
Netherlands 2-2 Japan
The Netherlands and Japan shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw in their Group F opener at the World Cup. The Dutch twice took the lead, but Japan responded on both occasions to secure a valuable point in an entertaining contest. Both teams produced attacking football and created several chances in a match played at a high tempo throughout. While the Netherlands will be disappointed not to hold on for victory, Japan will be encouraged by their resilience and fighting spirit. The draw leaves Group F finely poised, with both sides remaining firmly in contention for a place in the knockout rounds.
