The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made a surprising decision to purchase 1,010 Honda City cars at an estimated cost of Rs. 6 billion. This massive purchase will be made in two phases with the first payment of Rs. 3 billion upfront. The remaining amount will be paid once the first batch of 500 cars is delivered.
The procurement process for these cars has been finalized and Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited has been awarded the contract. The vehicles will be delivered to FBR in several batches between January and May 2025. The delivery schedule is as follows:
75 cars in January 2025
200 cars in February 2025
225 cars in March 2025
250 cars in April 2025
260 cars in May 2025
But here’s the interesting part: these cars won’t be your average Honda City models. They’ll come with some amazing value-added features including:
A navigation system with a reverse camera
High-grade interior
Free periodic maintenance for up to 20,000 km or 12 months
An extended warranty of four years or 100,000 km
And as an added bonus FBR has also demanded that a tracking system be installed in each car with a one-year service charge and a discounted subscription renewal fee. This tracking system will allow FBR to keep track of the cars’ location and movement.
The purchase of these cars has raised several questions including why FBR needs so many cars and what the real reason behind this decision is. Some have speculated that the cars will be used for official purposes, such as transporting FBR officials or providing them with official vehicles. Others have raised concerns about the cost of the purchase and whether it is a wise use of taxpayers’ money.
Regardless of the reason behind the purchase one thing is clear: FBR’s decision to buy 1,000 Honda City cars is a significant one and it will be interesting to see how this purchase plays out in the coming months.
