England cricketers drinking probe has come under the spotlight after reports claimed England players went on a six-day drinking binge in Australia following early Ashes defeats. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed it will investigate the matter to establish the facts.

The players visited the coastal resort after losing the first two Ashes Tests and before the third Test in Adelaide. British and Australian media reported heavy drinking during the break, raising concerns about discipline and professionalism on a crucial tour.

ECB Managing Director Rob Key said the board would not rush to judgment. He stressed the need to separate facts from exaggeration. Key said that images of a few players having drinks do not always tell the full story. However, he made it clear that excessive drinking would not be acceptable.

Key strongly criticised any unhealthy team culture. He said he does not support a drinking culture in cricket. If claims of constant partying are proven true, the ECB will take the issue seriously. Before the Ashes series, Key had already warned players to avoid poor behaviour off the field.

Despite the criticism, Key defended head coach Brendon McCullum. He said McCullum remains a strong coach with a solid Test record. The ECB does not believe the coach is responsible for the team’s recent struggles.

On the field, England’s Ashes campaign has gone badly. Australia won the third Test in Adelaide by 82 runs. That result gave Australia a 3-0 lead and secured the Ashes urn. England had earlier lost in Perth and Brisbane.

The fourth Test begins on December 26 in Melbourne. England will now look to restore pride and end the series on a positive note.
