Emily Hamilton, an accomplished journalist and editorial strategist with extensive experience covering technology, artificial intelligence, business, politics, media, and the future of work, has announced that she is joining The Wall Street Journal as Associate News Editor for Live Journalism.
Hamilton shared the news on LinkedIn, expressing excitement about beginning a new chapter in her journalism career.

Nearly five years at Axios
Hamilton joins The Wall Street Journal after spending nearly five years at Axios, where she played a key role in developing editorial content for Axios Live events.
Most recently, she served as Senior Editorial Writer for Axios Live, leading editorial content strategy and producing coverage of breaking news and emerging trends across technology, artificial intelligence, business, politics, and media.
Earlier, she worked as Editorial Writer and Researcher for Axios Events, helping bring the newsroom’s journalism to live audiences through interviews, event programming, and editorial planning.
Diverse journalism background
Before joining Axios, Hamilton served as a Research Assistant and Editor at the University of Virginia, assisting media scholar Dr. Aynne Kokas with research and editorial work for the book Trafficking Data: How China Is Winning the War on Data Sovereignty. Her responsibilities included fact-checking, copy-editing, literature reviews, and research on US-China technology and media policy.
She also worked as a freelance reporter for C-VILLE Weekly, where she covered local news and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and previously served as a Staff Writer and Copy Editor for The Cavalier Daily, the University of Virginia’s student newspaper.
Her early career also included roles in content marketing, public radio, Amnesty International USA, and an internship with the U.S. House of Representatives.

Hamilton’s appointment reflects the growing importance of live journalism, where news organizations increasingly engage audiences through live events, interviews, forums, and discussions that complement traditional reporting.
