A Dubai resident recently captured a significant change at one of the city’s popular malls in two photos taken two months apart. Zahra Khimji, originally from Kenya,
shared the pictures showcasing the name alteration of The Dubai Mall, which had remained unchanged for over 14 years since its opening.
The mall now goes by the simpler name ‘Dubai Mall.’ Zahra, who works at a retail store within the mall, noticed the name change over the weekend and decided to share the images on her Instagram account. One of her friends posted them as an Instagram story, which quickly gained popularity.
In January, the mall announced the new name through a TikTok video without providing a specific reason for the change. The mall’s social media accounts and official website have also been updated to reflect the new name. The Dubai Mall holds the distinction of being the world’s largest destination for shopping,
entertainment, and leisure. Situated next to the iconic Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, it boasts 1,200 retail stores, two major department stores, and an extensive selection of food and beverage outlets, encompassing over 1 million square meters, equivalent to 200 football pitches.
