A powerful windstorm swept across Punjab late at night, causing widespread destruction, collapsing walls and roofs, disrupting electricity supplies, and leaving a 15-year-old girl dead and more than 13 people injured.
In Bahawalpur’s Channan Pir area, 15-year-old Allah Wasai lost her life when a wall collapsed on her. In another incident within Bahawalpur city, two children were injured after a wall fell, with one of them suffering a broken leg.
The storm also caused roof collapses in Ghani Goth and along CPEC Road, injuring two women. In Fatto Wali, falling solar panels and a tree collapse on Jhangi Wala Road left six people injured.
Meanwhile, a fire that broke out in stored forest material and a brick kiln’s straw stockpile was brought under control after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts.
Strong winds damaged power lines and uprooted trees, severely affecting the electricity distribution network. Power supply was suspended from more than four feeders in Bahawalpur. According to MEPCO officials, restoration work is underway and efforts are being made to resume electricity services in the affected areas as quickly as possible.
Authorities continue to assess the damage caused by the storm as residents begin recovery efforts across the affected regions.
