An Accountability Court (AC) issued an order on Thursday, halting Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder and Bushra Bibi from making statements targeting state institutions and officials. Judge Nasir Javed Rana presided over the matter concerning the PTI’s founder and his spouse.
The court directive emphasized the media’s role, urging refraining from disseminating politically charged narratives against state institutions and their representatives. It highlighted allegations against the PTI founder for making politically biased remarks against the esteemed figures of state institutions. The court underscored its responsibility to maintain decorum and ensure a fair trial environment.
Furthermore, the court instructed prison authorities to revert the prison court to its pre-Eid condition. It mandated that media coverage limit itself strictly to court proceedings, refraining from reporting statements made by the accused during trial. Additionally, the prosecution, defendants, and legal representatives present in court were urged to abstain from making such statements, as they could compromise the court’s decorum.
The directive also referenced the code of conduct of PEMRA, emphasizing that political statements by the accused do not fall within the realm of legal reporting.
