A deadly explosion at a coal mine in China has claimed the lives of at least 82 workers, while several others remain missing, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
According to foreign media reports, the blast occurred at the Liuxinyu coal mine in Chengzi city after a dangerous buildup of gas caused a massive explosion on Friday evening. Initial reports confirmed eight deaths, but the toll later surged dramatically as rescue teams recovered more bodies from the site.
Chinese authorities said multiple workers were also injured in the incident, while search operations are still underway to locate missing miners trapped inside the mine.
Officials have launched an investigation into the tragedy and vowed strict action against those found responsible. The incident once again raises serious concerns over safety standards in China’s mining sector, which has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent years.
