Two drones fell near Dubai International Airport on Wednesday morning, leaving four airport staff injured and briefly raising safety concerns around one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
Authorities confirmed that the incident resulted in minor injuries to two Ghanaian nationals and one Bangladeshi national, while one Indian national sustained moderate injuries. All four victims received immediate medical treatment.
Despite the incident, officials said air traffic is continuing to operate normally.
Drone incident near the airport vicinity
Airport authorities said the drones fell in the vicinity of the airport earlier in the day. Emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the scene and handled the situation in coordination with relevant authorities.
Officials urged travellers not to head to the airport unless their airline confirms their flight, as schedules may still change due to precautionary measures.
Operations at Dubai Airports, which manages both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, had partially resumed on March 7 following earlier disruptions linked to regional security developments.
Previous incidents linked to drone debris
Earlier incidents across the UAE have also been linked to falling drone debris. Recent cases included debris striking homes in Dubai and facilities in Abu Dhabi after air defence interceptions.
Authorities said contingency plans were already in place at the airport, and most passenger areas had been cleared quickly as a precaution.
World’s busiest international airport
The incident comes as Dubai International Airport continues to maintain its position as the world’s busiest airport for international travel.
Last year alone, the airport handled 95.2 million passengers, marking the busiest year in its history and the highest international passenger traffic ever recorded by any airport globally.
Officials said safety remains the top priority as authorities continue to monitor developments and ensure airport operations remain secure.
