MURREE: A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Aryari village in Kotli Sattian, where a 16-year-old girl allegedly took her own life after enduring repeated blackmail and harassment by a local resident.
According to police, the incident occurred seven days ago when the teenager reportedly poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze inside an under-construction house adjacent to her family home. She suffered critical burn injuries and was immediately shifted to Rawalpindi for treatment, but later succumbed to her wounds.
Police said a case has been registered at Kotli Sattian Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s brother. The FIR names the accused, identified as the girl’s neighbor, Hamid, who allegedly subjected her to continuous mental distress through calls and messages from different phone numbers.
The complaint further states that the accused’s family had previously been informed about his alleged conduct, but the harassment reportedly continued despite warnings.
DPO Murree said police launched an investigation as soon as information about the incident was received. Authorities are conducting raids to arrest the suspect and have assured that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined.
Police said further investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken in accordance with the findings.
