TikTok, the popular video streaming app, is joining the ranks of technology giants by introducing text-only posts, taking on Elon Musk’s rebranded Twitter platform, “X.”The Chinese-owned app sees the new feature as another way for users to express themselves creatively. Not long ago, TikTok launched a music streaming service to compete with platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Meanwhile, Twitter has bid farewell to its famous blue bird logo and embraced a black and white “X” for its rebranding.
With the update, TikTok users will have three options to choose from when posting: photos, videos, or text. They can also personalize their posts by adding sound, location, or Duets, which allow for video reactions to other users’ posts.
According to TikTok, these features will make text posts as dynamic and interactive as video or photo posts.
TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, recently introduced TikTok Music in Brazil and Indonesia, with beta versions also available in Singapore, Mexico, and Australia.
The platform is currently testing other features, including a new landscape mode, with select users worldwide.
Notably, other major social media platforms like Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Musk’s X already support text posts.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced that their Threads platform gained over 100 million users in less than five days.
As for Twitter’s rebranding, the blue bird logo was replaced with a logo featuring a white “X” on a black background, and the term “tweets” will be changed to “x’s,” as indicated by Musk.
