Mianwali: Tanzeela Bibi sedated her husband with sleeping pills for 18 months while conducting an affair with his stepbrother, before the pair conspired to shoot him dead.
MIANWALI — What appeared to be a random robbery-murder in a remote village of Kalabagh turned out to be a cold-blooded conspiracy hatched inside the victim’s own bedroom, allegedly by his wife and his stepbrother, who had been conducting a secret affair for over a year and a half.
Sanaullah, son of Muhammad Suleman, was found shot dead on his charpoy inside his own home in Kot Chandna, Kalabagh, on the night of September 21. His wife told police that armed robbers had broken in, killed her husband when he resisted, and fled. The story was convincing enough. The grief was performed well. The neighborhood gathered. Emergency services were called. The stepbrother, Imran, son of Suleman, showed up at the hospital the next morning alongside the body and was present at the burial.
For 10 days, police had nothing.
A Case With No Leads
DPO Mianwali Waqar Azeem Khral immediately constituted a special investigation team. But the case offered no obvious motive. Sanaullah had no known enemies. Nothing of value had been stolen. It did not look like a robbery. It did not look like a feud.
Local customs initially kept suspicion away from the wife. In Mianwali, investigators noted, it is virtually unheard of for a wife to orchestrate her husband’s murder. The team widened the inquiry but kept hitting walls.
Then they turned their focus inward, toward the family.
The Secret That Cost a Man His Life
Investigators uncovered, through technical evidence and scientific analysis, a relationship that had been running for 18 months in plain sight of no one.
Tanzeela Bibi, the victim’s wife, had been involved with Imran, her husband’s stepbrother, for approximately 18 months. The affair had its own grim routine: Tanzeela would dissolve sleeping pills into her husband’s food or drink, wait for him to lose consciousness, and spend the night with Imran while Sanaullah lay sedated in the same house. He never knew.
Over time, the two decided they wanted to be together permanently. Sanaullah was the only obstacle.
On the night of September 21, Tanzeela administered the sleeping pills as usual. Once Sanaullah was unconscious, Imran entered the house in the early hours, shot him twice, and slipped away into the dark. Tanzeela then raised the alarm, woke the neighbours, and called emergency services, playing the grieving widow with enough conviction to hold police attention away from herself for nearly two weeks.
Arrested on Technical Evidence
Twelve days after the murder, Mianwali Police arrested both Tanzeela Bibi and Imran on the basis of forensic and technical evidence. Further investigation is underway.
DPO Waqar Azeem Khral credited the special team’s methodical approach for cracking what he described as one of the most difficult blind murder cases the district had seen in recent years.
Sanaullah was drugged, shot, buried, and mourned, all while the two people responsible stood in the front row.
