The murder case of digital designer Hina Javed has reached Rawalpindi’s Sessions Court as the accused domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad has filed a bail application categorically denying any involvement in her death.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Naseer Ahmed admitted the bail application for hearing and issued notices to the SHO of Civil Lines police station and the investigating officer. The court has sought the complete case record and investigation report before deciding the petition.
In his application, Arshad declared himself innocent and called the allegations in the FIR “completely false.”
What the Investigation Has Established
The case has developed significant forensic and circumstantial evidence since Hina Javed’s death.
A preliminary post-mortem found a fractured neck bone alongside injuries to her ribs and hip. DNA samples were sent to the forensic laboratory, with the final cause of death pending complete forensic reports.
A special investigation team took Hina’s husband Asghar and Arshad to Lahore on August 25 for DNA and polygraph examinations at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.
On September 1, investigators recovered an alleged murder weapon — a screwdriver — from Arshad during a 10-day physical remand inquiry. Police also recovered the nikahnamas of Asghar’s two marriages and the divorce deed of his first wife, Iram Zaib.
Three Different Accounts
The most significant complication in the investigation is Arshad’s inconsistent statements. He has reportedly given three different accounts to investigators.
In his first account, he allegedly claimed Hina was killed according to a plan involving Asghar. In his second statement, he reportedly took full responsibility for the murder himself. During the formal investigation, he gave a third account, saying he had been called during an argument between Hina and her husband, that Hina resisted and attempted to escape, and that she was strangled during the struggle.
Three statements. Three different versions. All from the same accused.
The YouTube Lecture and Other Evidence
Police have examined old YouTube lectures by Asghar, who reportedly taught corporate communication at several universities. In one lecture, he discussed hypothetical circumstances in which a husband might shoot his wife, including marital disputes, infidelity and financial motives. Police have not indicated the lecture establishes a direct connection to Hina’s death.
Investigators are examining multiple possible motives, including whether Arshad may have killed Hina after she allegedly discovered his theft of cash and belongings from the household. He had previously been accused of stealing Hina’s purse, money and other items.
A specific investigative question concerns whether one person could have moved Hina’s body to the bathroom and suspended it from the shower — a physical possibility that has become a significant part of the probe.
Current Legal Status
On September 3 Civil Judge Adil Sarwar Sial sent both Asghar and Arshad to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand, directing investigators to complete the challan within two weeks and produce suspects on September 16.
The special investigation team is now recording separate statements from police officers and other individuals as authorities continue piecing together the circumstances surrounding Hina Javed’s death.
The court’s decision on Arshad’s bail application will follow consideration of the full investigation record.
