Shoaib Malik’s nikah rumours never stop — and with three marriages already on the scorecard, who can blame Pakistan for watching

Shoaib Malik has hilariously responded to constant nikah rumours on Mashion saying he is always getting married in headlines while already holding a three-marriage scorecard in real life.

Pakistan’s most durable cricketer has a batting average that most players would envy. But it is his matrimonial average that Pakistan cannot stop watching.

Shoaib Malik, the man who has outlasted teammates, captains, coaches, and entire generations of Pakistani cricket, appeared on Mashion recently and addressed the subject that follows him more persistently than any journalist, opposition bowler, or PCB selector ever has.

The nikah rumors.

“I am always hearing rumours about my nikah,” Malik said, with the weary amusement of a man who has genuinely lost count of how many times he has been married in the headlines. “I am always shocked by the number of these rumours. I am always getting married in the headlines.”

He added, with perfect comic timing: “I want to spread a rumour that I am a gentleman. But it is not possible with those wedding rumours going on all the time.”

The Scorecard That Explains the Rumours

Here is the thing about Shoaib Malik’s nikah rumours. They are difficult to dismiss entirely because the man’s actual matrimonial biography is genuinely extraordinary.

Marriage One — Ayesha Siddiqui, UAE
Malik’s first marriage to Ayesha Siddiqui in the UAE was itself the subject of prolonged and complicated public attention. The relationship ended in circumstances that were anything but straightforward and set the tone for everything that followed.

Marriage Two — Sania Mirza, India’s Tennis Queen
The world sat up when Malik married Sania Mirza, one of India’s most celebrated sports stars. A Pakistani cricketer. An Indian tennis champion. Cross-border love at the height of regional rivalry. The couple had a son together, Izhaan, before the marriage ended in divorce in early 2023 — an announcement that was itself one of the most discussed celebrity splits in South Asian sporting history.

Marriage Three — Sana Javed, Out of the Blue
Pakistan was still processing the Sania divorce when Malik emerged married to Sana Javed, the model and actress, in what could only be described as one of the most unexpected announcements in recent Pakistani celebrity history. People genuinely did not believe it at first. The marriage was confirmed. Pakistan collectively blinked twice and moved on, though not without considerable commentary.

Three marriages. Three very public stories. A son from the second. And a celebrity profile that has managed to remain in the entertainment news cycle even during periods when his cricket career had theoretically moved to the background.

Flirtatious in His DNA or Simply Unlucky in Love?
Some sources who have observed Malik’s personal life closely over the years describe him with a certain knowing fondness as someone for whom romantic entanglement is as natural as a cover drive. The suggestion is not unkind. It is simply an observation that Shoaib Malik and matrimonial headlines have a relationship of their own that appears entirely independent of his own intentions.

His comment about wanting to spread a rumour that he is a gentleman is actually quite revealing. It suggests a man who is genuinely aware of his own public image on this particular subject and has arrived at a place of amused acceptance rather than defensiveness.

That is either great wisdom or extensive practice. Possibly both.

The Fourth Time Question
Pakistan being Pakistan, the question that follows naturally from a three-marriage scorecard and persistent nikah rumours is the one nobody asks directly but everyone is thinking.

Is there a fourth chapter?

Malik himself has not suggested anything of the sort. He is currently married to Sana Javed and by all available accounts the marriage is intact. His Mashion appearance was not a cry for help or a hint of impending news. It was a genuinely funny man responding with genuine humour to a genuinely absurd situation.

But Pakistan has learned not to make predictions about Shoaib Malik’s personal life. The man has consistently defied expectations in both his cricket career and his romantic biography.

All that can be said with confidence is that if a fourth chapter ever arrives, Pakistan will find out about it approximately six minutes after it happens. And the headlines will write themselves.

The Gentleman Who Cannot Shake the Rumours
Shoaib Malik wanted to be known as a gentleman. The nikah rumours will not allow it.

There is something genuinely endearing about that complaint. A cricketer who has played international cricket for over two decades, survived every format revolution, outlasted every generation of Pakistani cricket, and still finds himself spending talk show appearances defending his relationship status is either the unluckiest romantic in Pakistani sport or the most romantic personality in Pakistani sport.

Either way, the rumours will continue. Pakistan is too invested in Shoaib Malik’s personal life to stop now.

Stay hitched Shoaib. The scoreboard is being watched.
