National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) marked the country’s 79th Independence Day with a ceremony at its Head Office in Karachi, bringing together President and CEO Rehmat Ali Hasnie, senior management and employees from across the bank.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the national flag by Hasnie, followed by the national anthem and a cake-cutting ceremony as employees gathered to commemorate Pakistan’s independence.
Addressing the gathering, Hasnie paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the country’s founders and members of the Armed Forces, while highlighting NBP’s role in supporting financial inclusion and economic empowerment across Pakistan.
“Real freedom means economic empowerment and financial inclusion for every Pakistani,” he said.
Hasnie said the bank’s progress over the past year had strengthened its ability to expand its support for different segments of society, including farmers, small business owners, students and women entrepreneurs.
“This year has been a landmark one for the Bank, and that strength allows us to do even more for the people of Pakistan including our farmers, our shopkeepers, our students, and our women entrepreneurs.”
He also highlighted NBP’s continuing digital transformation, saying the bank remained focused on improving services for citizens who rely on it for essential financial transactions and government-related payments.
The bank’s efforts include serving pensioners, remittance senders and government beneficiaries, reinforcing its longstanding identity as “The People’s Bank.”
The Independence Day gathering also underscored the wider role of financial institutions in supporting economic participation at a time when access to formal banking services remains an important part of Pakistan’s economic development.
For NBP, financial inclusion extends beyond conventional banking customers to communities and individuals who depend on accessible banking services for income, savings, remittances, pensions and government payments.
The bank’s emphasis on digital transformation is also aimed at making financial services more accessible and efficient, particularly as customers increasingly rely on digital channels for everyday transactions.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for NBP employees and leadership to reflect on the country’s independence while reaffirming the bank’s commitment to its public-facing role.
As Pakistan observed its 79th Independence Day, Hasnie’s message linked the meaning of independence with economic opportunity, positioning financial inclusion as an important component of empowering citizens and strengthening the country’s economic future.
NBP is one of Pakistan’s major public-sector banks, with a broad customer base spanning individuals, businesses and government beneficiaries. Its focus on financial inclusion and digital services reflects the growing importance of accessible banking in expanding economic participation across the country.
